This is some cool historical footage from the National Film Board showing skiers arriving in Wakefield on the old steam train, disembarking, and then getting some skiing in!

I love the history of skiing in and around the Ottawa area, it’s pretty rich considering how young the City is compared to our European contemporaries. Did you know Camp Fortune is celebrating 100 years this year? I’ll be posting little bits of cool history from the region as it comes up.

A time capsule winter 1940’s of the steam locomotive arriving at the Wakefield station to drop off skiers and continue with other passengers living in the villages of the Upper Gatineau Valley ending in Maniwaki
