Paddle For CHEO
Sunday August 13th, 2017
Join in this great event on the Ottawa River in Petawawa and help to make a difference for the kids of CHEO.
In 2010, Stand Up for CHEO (SUFC) started as a personal challenge for two friends, Mathew Hinther and Duncan Keith when they paddled 150kms over three days on their stand up paddle boards. They took this opportunity to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), a place that meant a lot to the both of them. Over the years SUFC evolved into a regular community stand up paddle (SUP) event in Ottawa, Kingston and Petawawa. The event’s goals were to promote and grow the sport of Stand Up Paddling while raising funds for CHEO and to this affect it was very successful by raising over $100,000 for CHEO while bringing together hundreds of SUPers.
In 2017 SUFC decided to close shop after having met their original goals, however the spirit lives on in a new event entitled Paddle for CHEO (PFC). As part of the Upper Ottawa River Race & Paddle Festival, Paddle for CHEO will be open to SUPs, canoes and kayaks as they bring together this great water community to raise funds for CHEO. Donations help the hospital provide a wide variety of paediatric programs, research, state-of the art equipment, medical and nursing education, and assistance for families in crisis.
We encourage you to join us, as we raise our paddles, and awareness for a great cause!
