At 9am on September 9th 2017, the Ottawa East Community Association is organizing a circumnavigation event around Rideau Island in downtown Ottawa, Ontario. The beautiful day-long 20k paddle will take place around the Rideau Island, which is the land surrounded by the Rideau River on the east, the Ottawa River on the north, and the Canal on the west. The paddle is feasible for recreational canoeists and kayakers, but they suggest bringing portaging wheels for the three long portages across Carleton University, around the Rideau Falls, and from the Ottawa River up to the top of the locks on the Rideau canal.

People are welcome to start with Old Ottawa East paddlers but can also join in from their home communities. After a long day of paddling, people are welcome to a celebratory barbecue where they can share their stories from the day!

In order to take part in this event, it costs $5 per person or $10 per family. If this seems like something that tickles your fancy, check out the event page, Canada 150 Circumnavigation, for more details!
