Nestled in on a hill overlooking the fields is the Perched Cabin at Mariposa Farm: a cozy hand-made cabin the farm owners rent out on their property for those looking for a quick commune with nature nearby.
The 380 sq. ft. cabin is really for 2 but could sleep more, with a double bed in a loft area above a comfy living /dining room, kitchen area and wood stove.
The cabin was built entirely from material from the farm, and features a gigantic wall of windows that gets the sun for most of the day, warming up the cabin in the winter or pushing you outside from the heat in the summer!
Access to the cabin is a short 1km hike in the summer or snowshoe in the winter from the main parking lot at Mariposa. You have to carry your belongings to the cabin, but the the farm guys will provide you with a wagon or sleigh if you want.
Surrounding the cabin are a few km of trails that are worth checking out, and they take you past Mariposa’s other cabin, the Nested Cabin – a prototype of the Perched cabin – stuck into the side of another hill.
