Camping Gear that Fails: the Gerber Axe Knife
March 30, 2011 in gear by Dave
I’ve been inspired to start a new series on OutdoorOttawa: Camping Gear That Fails!
I saw this post on PaddlingInstructor.com about the Gerber Gator Axe, a nice-looking axe with a handy 3” knife, which apparently comes loose from it’s magnetic seal and gashes the user from time to time! Gerber has put out a recall of course, and I doubt we’ll see Bear Grills using a Gator Axe anytime soon (he’s got a line of BG survival gear from Gerber, that’s the joke).
If happen to have purchased an axe with a knife in the handle, Gerber says to remove the knife from the axe handle and then contact Gerber to receive a free handle cap, which will hold the knife in the axe handle during transport and storage.
Anyone else know of a real Camping Gear Failure?
